demeterAugustin Demeter Fruit Farming

After many years of Naturland membership, Dierk and Katrin Augustin converted to Demeter cultivation in 2001.

This type of farming is characterised by a special utilisation of natural energies in favour of the plant world. The observation of cosmic rhythms and the production of subtle information and compounds, lend particular strength to soil microbiology and subsequently the plant's own powers of resistance.

During planting and tending of the orchards, particular attention is paid to cosmic rhythms, such as the position of the moon in relation to the constellations and planets. In so doing, the biodynamic compounds which have been applied, such as the formative energy of the nettle in compost, can unfold their particular efficacy.

By means of targeted composting of manure, soil and shredded material, these by-products are upgraded to an especially well-balanced fertiliser (photo right) to support soil life. This provides the cultivated plants with particular strength, whereby they are able to yield fruits of the highest quality. The aim is to produce flavoursome fruits with the maximum amount of vital energy.

Demeter farming means a lot of extra work, which is not necessary for other organic farming methods, such as those of Bioland or Naturland. This goes especially for the production of biodynamic compounds. For these, herbs are collected on the farm according to special ripeness requirements. They are then dried and buried over the winter according to particular guidelines (photo left).

A wooden barrel was put up in a newly established, particularly suitable location. Here the compounds are dynamised by hand with a special beater. This process takes up to one hour and is similar to the production of homeopathic medicines. By means of an appropriate spray technique, the prepared compounds are then applied during specific cosmic constellations.
